Perched on a rocky spur above the Oker valley, the Burgruine Vienenburg preserves the remains of a medieval stronghold whose exact origins remain uncertain. Around it lie the foundations of the demolished great hall and farm buildings leaning against the old ring wall, some with timber-framed upper storeys.

- The keep is entered via a raised doorway some 8 metres above courtyard level.
- Access from the east crosses a ditch that once separated the stronghold from its surroundings.
- Farm buildings leaning against the old wall occupy part of the former fortified site and are not all open to visitors.
