The Burg Henneberg, in Hamburg-Poppenbüttel, is a 19th century folly built to resemble a medieval ruin by a wealthy family seeking a romantic retreat. It copies the genuine Burg Henneberg in Thuringia at a 1:4 scale, perched atop an entirely man-made hill raised beside the Alster river. The site includes a main building, a twelve-metre tower reached by a spiral staircase, and a small so-called knights' hall. After decades of neglect and several changes of ownership, the structure has since been put to cultural use.
