To make a day of it

Burg Dreckburg stands in Salzkotten (Kreis Paderborn), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

The Dreckburg stands at the eastern edge of Salzkotten, ringed by a water-filled moat, in the manner of a fortified tower keep. Built in the 14th century for a Paderborn church official, it once marked the western frontier of the bishopric and watched over the old Hellweg route. Baroque wings added in the 18th century gave it the appearance it still has today, blending medieval defence with a noble residence. Ownership passed through several families over the centuries, down to a private owner around the turn of the millennium.
