To make a day of it

Burg Ankershagen stands in Ankershagen (Landkreis Mecklenburgische Seenplatte), in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

The Burg Ankershagen survives only as ruins hidden in a park, set behind a hill near the Gutshaus of Ankershagen. These remains belonged to a former moated castle built by the von Holstein family, likely between the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, and destroyed during the Thirty Years' War. Two to three metre high fragments of the square keep's walls still stand, shielded by an earthen rampart about fifty metres long. Local legend holds that an underground passage once linked the stronghold to the Kratzeburg mound, tied to the robber knight Henning von Holstein.
