The Turmhügel Göttersdorf is an early medieval motte, now absorbed into a residential district of Osterhofen in Bavaria. Nothing remains above ground of either the original fortified tower or the baroque Schloss that the Fugger counts built here from 1681: the mansion was torn down after 1834 and the mound itself levelled. What survives, buried beneath a private house on Schloßbergstraße, is the former Romanesque chapel of St George, its barrel vault and semicircular apse still intact under the floor. Visiting the site today means reading a landscape rather than touring a building: a mound still traceable beside the river Vils, and the memory of a manor that vanished.
