On the southern shore of Lac du Bourget, where the Leysse river meets the water, the ruins of this medieval castle recall one of the favoured residences of the counts of Savoy. Built in the mid-13th century for Thomas of Piedmont, it served as a hunting and fishing retreat as well as a place of diplomacy, before falling out of favour once the counts settled at the château de Ripaille on Lake Geneva. Visitors come mainly for the lakeside setting, since little remains of the original structure.
