In Pertuis, in the Vaucluse, the château de Val Joanis stands on the site of a former Roman villa and has kept, since its founding before 1467 by the Arnaud family, an appearance unchanged through the centuries. The building combines an L-shaped main house with a farm arranged around a courtyard, opening onto terraced gardens recreated at the end of the 20th century in an 18th-century spirit. Visitors find a kitchen garden, rose beds and a third terrace planted with plane trees brought from Mount Athos, the whole having been listed as a Remarkable Garden since 2005. The estate is also a working vineyard, producing several AOC Luberon wines.
