To make a day of it

Château de Tournon stands in Tournon (Savoie), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

On the Tourmotte plateau above Tournon, the surviving ruins mark the site of a fortified castle whose origins trace back to a motte built in the 10th century. The location overlooks the Isère valley and once helped control, along with the strongholds of Chevron and Conflans, the route toward the Faverges valley via the Tamié pass. Visitors come less for an intact building than for the view and the remains of a fortress that belonged for centuries to the Counts of Savoy.
