The château de Soye stands in the commune of Ploemeur, in the Morbihan department, set within a park of nearly twenty hectares whose planted avenues still trace a layout inherited from the eighteenth century. Built in the late 1780s for a shipowner of the French East India Company, it was the birthplace of naval engineer Henri Dupuy de Lôme and later served various purposes, from an open-air school to a youth hostel, before falling into ruin after a fire in 1988. Visitors today come mainly for the park and its historic kitchen garden rather than for the building itself, which remains heavily damaged.
