What the French Ministry of Culture records

Construction datant de 1820-1827, oeuvre de l'architecte Thénadey, bâtie sur le site d'une ancienne forteresse médiévale qui servit dans la lutte contre les Protestants de La Rochelle et de Saint-Jean-d'Angély. Plusieurs projets finirent par aboutir à un logis de plan rectangulaire, cantonné d'ailes basses en retour d'équerre, terminées par deux pavillons et une clôture basse en fer à cheval. Une ferme a également été construite à l'ouest du logis, de même qu'un pigeonnier. Le style adopté est le néo-classicisme : cinq travées de baies régulières et rectangulaires, un avant-corps central sous fronton triangulaire, une corniche à denticules, bandeau horizontal entre deux niveaux, porte encadrée de pilastres, architrave, garde-corps en ferronnerie... Le côté jardin présente un petit péristyle à deux colonnes supportant un balcon, un chambranle à fasce autour des baies et un larmier sur chacune d'elles. A l'intérieur, les dispositions d'origine subsistent. Les pièces ont conservé leurs cheminées décorées de staff Empire, les plafonds en plâtre et quelques boiseries.
