L'édifice témoigne de ce qu'était un château aux confins de la Dombes et de la Bresse entre le 13e et le 16e siècle. La partie la plus ancienne comprend cheminées monumentales, portes à arcs en accolade, planchers à poutraisons apparentes, muraille défensive en briques anciennes surmontée d'un ancien chemin de ronde. L'édifice actuel se compose d'un grand corps de logis adossé au rempart et flanqué d'une grosse tour carrée qui semble contemporaine du rempart. L'aile construite au milieu du 19e siècle est représentative d'un type d'architecture bourgeoise de l'époque.
