To make a day of it

Château de Saint-Leu stands in Saint-Leu-la-Forêt (Val-d'Oise), in the Île-de-France region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

The château de Saint-Leu, in the Val-d'Oise region of France, no longer stands: it was pulled down in 1837 and the grounds were later built over with housing. The estate had combined two successive manor houses, later reshaped under Louis Bonaparte and Hortense de Beauharnais, who commissioned an extensive landscape park. Its last owner, the Duke of Bourbon-Condé, died there in 1830 under circumstances that remain unexplained, found hanged at his bedroom window. Today only a commemorative monument raised in 1844 marks the spot where the château once stood.
