To make a day of it

Château de Roquevaire stands in Sauve (Gard), in the Occitanie region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

Set on a rocky spur above the village of Sauve, in the Gard department, the château de Roquevaire stands on a site occupied since antiquity, though the building visible today was erected in the mid seventeenth century by Henry Delmas, abbot of the Saint-Pierre abbey of Sauve. The structure combines medieval-looking features, drawbridges, arrow slits, rusticated stonework, with terraced gardens built around water management, including cisterns, a water display and an orangery. This enclosed garden, designed as a retreat away from its owner's duties, was conceived around the idea of a lost paradise.
