To make a day of it

Château de Rocquencourt stands in Le Chesnay-Rocquencourt (Yvelines), in the Île-de-France region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 18th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

The château de Rocquencourt, begun in 1781 to a design by the architect Charles de Wailly for the comtesse de Provence, no longer stands: it was pulled down in 1963 after suffering heavy damage during the Second World War. Only the entrance gate remains, bearing the interlaced initials of Cécile Furtado-Heine, a 19th-century owner who had the park laid out. It is this park, listed as a historic monument, that visitors can walk through on the site of the former estate.
