To make a day of it

Château de Montmusard stands in Dijon (Côte-d'Or), in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: third quarter of the 18th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

In Dijon, the Château de Montmusard preserves one wing of an ambitious pleasure residence begun in 1765 by architect Charles De Wailly for Jean-Philippe Fyot de La Marche, in the fashionable neoclassical 'grecque' style. The estate, held by the Fyot family since the seventeenth century, once featured a notable garden with an octagonal pavilion famed for its mechanical rising table. The original building was left unfinished or partly destroyed, yet its appearance is well recorded through period plans and engravings.
