Le domaine de Lonrai, créé au 17e siècle, est l'un des grands domaines du département de l'Orne. En dépit d'une histoire mouvementée depuis la Révolution, et bien qu'entièrement remodelé au 19e siècle, il forme néanmoins un ensemble cohérent comprenant le château, la ferme et le haras aménagé en 1863 par Armand Donon. Le comte Le Marois, qui fit l'acquisition du domaine à la fin du 19e siècle, donna un nouveau lustre au décor du château en faisant remonter dans le grand salon des boiseries de style pompéien de très grande qualité qui se trouvaient dans son hôtel parisien. Il s'entoura des meilleurs jardiniers pour agrémenter le parc et les abords du château.
