To make a day of it

Château de Lesdiguières stands in Le Glaizil (Hautes-Alpes), in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: third quarter of the 16th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

At the mouth of the Drac gorge, the ruins of the château at Le Glaizil recall the power of François de Bonne, duke of Lesdiguières and constable of France, who had this residence built in the final third of the 16th century. The complex, with a chapel added in the early 17th century, was devastated in 1692 during raids by Savoy mercenaries and further damaged during the Revolution. What remains today, spread over nearly a hectare and a half, gives a sense of the scale of a building designed to watch over the valley opposite the château of Saint-Firmin.
