To make a day of it

Château de Lassay stands in Saint-Michel-de-Chavaignes (Sarthe), in the Pays de la Loire region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

In Saint-Michel-de-Chavaignes, in the Sarthe department, the château de Lassay stands on a fortified site whose origins go back to the thirteenth century, when four neighbouring lordships were brought together. Its moat, fed by the Nogue stream, surrounds a curtain wall flanked by two round towers and a square tower, remnants of a defensive system dating from the late fifteenth century. The main dwelling, rebuilt in the eighteenth century, stands near a chapel that was converted into a studio by a couple of sculptors in the late nineteenth century, while a dovecote with five hundred nesting holes recalls the estate's farming past.
