To make a day of it

Château de La Coutancière stands in Brain-sur-Allonnes (Maine-et-Loire), in the Pays de la Loire region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The château de La Coutancière, in Brain-sur-Allonnes, no longer stands in its original form: the fortress and the pleasure residence of the lords of Montsoreau vanished through successive demolitions and a fire in 1825. The site owes its fame to a notorious affair of the late sixteenth century, the murder of Louis de Bussy d'Amboise, lover of the countess of Montsoreau, ordered by her husband in 1579. A later building now stands on the remains of the old fortress, unrelated architecturally to the historic château.
