To make a day of it

Château de la Bassetière stands in Saint-Julien-des-Landes (Vendée), in the Pays de la Loire region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

The château de la Bassetière stands in Saint-Julien-des-Landes, in the Vendée region, at the centre of a once vast agricultural estate that formerly spread across several parishes. Recorded as early as the Cassini maps, it has belonged to the same family for nearly five centuries, the Morisson de la Bassetière, said to descend from a Scottish clan who came to fight during the Hundred Years' War. Partly burned during the Revolution, the building still retains a sixteenth century wing despite its nineteenth century reconstruction. The château remains privately owned, set within a park that includes a pond and surrounding working farms.
