Set in the forest of Bonsecours, on the French Belgian border, the Château de l'Hermitage was built in the late 18th century for the Croÿ family around a square plan centred on a rotunda ballroom ringed with Corinthian columns. Visitors come above all for this Italian style hall crowned by a flattened dome, for the marquetry floors of the dining room, and for the park, which still follows its 18th century formal layout alongside sections later redesigned in the English style. Long left derelict and since restored, the estate is privately owned and partly open to visitors.
