To make a day of it
Château de Gavray stands in Gavray-sur-Sienne (Manche), in the Normandie region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Perched on a mound above the Sienne valley, the ruins of Gavray castle mark the site of a key stronghold of the Cotentin region from the late 11th century onward. A favoured residence of Charles the Bad in the 14th century and described by Froissart as the finest castle in Normandy, it was besieged several times before being dismantled on the orders of Louis XIII in 1626. Visitors can still see a round 12th century tower, the base of a square 14th century keep, fragments of the curtain wall and traces of a grain silo.
