To make a day of it

Château de Fargues stands in Vitrac (Cantal), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

The château de Fargues stands at Vitrac, in the Cantal, halfway up a hillside overlooking a valley that stretches toward the banks of the Lot, near Decazeville. Originally built as a medieval stronghold, it lost its machicolated towers in 1741 when Joseph Méallet de Fargues, bishop of Saint-Claude, had it rebuilt in a more comfortable Louis XV style. The surrounding park dates from the early 19th century and was laid out by landscape architect L.-L. Le Breton. The estate remained in the same families for centuries, passing from the Méallet to the Miramon-Fargues line.
