Château de Craonne stands in Craonne (Aisne), in the Hauts-de-France region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The site of old Craonne marks the spot of a village in Picardy wiped off the map during the fighting along the Chemin des Dames in 1917. Artillery fire in April and May of that year destroyed what remained of the houses, and the area, declared unfit for rebuilding, was never reconstructed on the same ground. A new village took shape lower down the slope during the 1920s, while the original site, now managed by the National Forests Office, became a wooded area planted with an arboretum. Visitors can walk among explanatory panels and three memorial gardens, German, Italian and Moroccan, honouring the nationalities who fought there.
