To make a day of it

Château de Chénas stands in Chénas (Rhône), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The château de Chénas stands among the vineyards of the Beaujolais region, on the site of a former noble residence of which only the vaulted cellar from the late 17th century remains. Rebuilt in 1821 by Adrien Delahante as an Italian-style pleasure villa, it has housed a winegrowers' cooperative cellar since 1934. Visitors mainly come for the cellar itself, 56 metres long, where the Chénas and Moulin-à-Vent wines age.

What to know

  • The site is now run as a wine cooperative, with wine sales and tastings on offer.
  • The visit centres mainly on the 17th-century vaulted cellar, 56 metres long, which stays at a steady temperature of around 13 degrees.
  • The château itself, built in 1821, overlooks around 200 hectares of vineyards.
  • No verified information on opening hours, admission fees or accessibility is available.
