Château de Bonneville-sur-Touques stands in Bonneville-sur-Touques (Calvados), in the Normandie region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 11th century, 12th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.
Perched on the hill overlooking the lower Touques valley, these ruins are what remains of a stronghold raised in the 12th century by Henry II Plantagenet, on the site of an earlier manor belonging to William the Conqueror. Eleanor of Aquitaine, King John and Philip Augustus all stayed here at various times, and the site later served as a garrison, a prison, and even a German labour camp during the Second World War. Little survives today besides scattered ruins, yet their commanding position once overlooked the port of Touques, a key crossing point to England in medieval times.
