To make a day of it

Château Ausone stands in Saint-Émilion (Gironde), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Château Ausone refers both to a wine estate and a historic site on the hillside above Saint-Émilion, in the Gironde region. Its name recalls the Roman poet Ausonius, who may once have owned a property on this very spot. Visitors come above all for the vineyard, among the most celebrated in the appellation, but also for the old buildings: the château, its outbuildings, the underground quarries and the twelfth-century Chapelle de la Madeleine. The place remains first and foremost a working wine estate, run for eleven generations by the same family.
