Schloss Vetschau stands on a gentle rise in the centre of the town of Vetschau/Spreewald, surrounded by a water moat fed by the Vetschauer Mühlenfließ stream. Built from 1540 onward on the site of an earlier medieval stronghold, the building owes its present appearance to alterations carried out between 1860 and 1870, which gave it its pilaster-framed facade and central projecting bay. Notable features include an octagonal timber-framed tower from the 18th century, an inner courtyard lined with wooden-column arcades, and a grand hall known as the Rittersaal, decorated with stucco and a fireplace and restored to its 19th-century colour scheme. The building today houses the town administration of Vetschau.
