Schloss Umkirch stands in Umkirch (Landkreis Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.
Schloss Umkirch stands in Umkirch, in the Landkreis Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, Baden-Württemberg, on the site of a 14th century moated stronghold once held by the lords of Geben. The present central building dates from 1743, with two side wings added in the late 1780s, before the whole was reworked in an Italian villa style in the early 19th century, crowned with a belvedere. Ownership passed through several noble families, including the Kagenecks and the Grand Dukes of Baden, before the estate came to the House of Hohenzollern, which still holds it today. An eleven hectare landscape park surrounds the schloss, and a neighbouring former princely park, now known as the Queen-Auguste-Victoria-Park, can be visited separately.
What to know
- The schloss remains privately owned by the House of Hohenzollern, which has held it for several generations.
- The landscape park adjoining the building covers around eleven hectares.
- The neighbouring Queen-Auguste-Victoria-Park is a separate estate, privately owned since 1993.
- The building's present appearance results from successive alterations between the 18th and 19th centuries, including the addition of a belvedere.
