To make a day of it

Schloss Hallerstein stands in Schwarzenbach an der Saale (Landkreis Hof), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

Schloss Hallerstein is a ruined castle standing on the Schlossberg hill, right next to the village parish church, in the Landkreis Hof in Bavaria. A fortified seat is believed to have existed here from 1421, and the place is first documented in written sources in 1439, under the von Sparneck family. A fire damaged the remains in 1835, and in 1887 a new building was erected over the surviving vaulted cellar to protect it. Today the rebuilt eastern wing houses a local history museum, while the western part remains a ruin.

  • The grounds have belonged to the Leuckart family of Weißdorf since 1951.
