Haus Welschenbeck stands in Warstein (Kreis Soest), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Haus Welschenbeck stands in the Möhne valley, on the boundary between Warstein and the former village of Mülheim, on the site of a small medieval manorial seat. Of the fortified house destroyed in 1445 during the Soest feud only a moated island remains, while the former retainers' dwelling, rebuilt in 1862, forms the residence seen today. Owned by the von Nagel-Doornik family since the eighteenth century, the site has again housed a restaurant since 2023. A notable lime tree, with a trunk over five metres in circumference, grows nearby.
What to know
- The current building is a former retainers' house turned manor in 1862, not the original medieval fortification.
- Only a moated island marks the site of the medieval castle, destroyed in 1445.
- The property is privately owned and has housed a restaurant since 2023, which shapes access to the interior.
- An old lime tree, with a trunk over five metres around, can be seen outdoors close to the building.
- No visiting hours or admission fees are set for the monument itself, apart from the restaurant's own opening times.
