To make a day of it

Bürgle (Köndringen) stands in Teningen (Landkreis Emmendingen), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

The Bürgle is a former spur castle, now vanished, built on a long rocky terrace at 215 metres above sea level, roughly 500 metres east of the village of Köndringen. Its historical name was probably Burg Köndringen, after the lords who likely had it built. Only a defensive ditch cut into the rock survives today, the sole visible trace of what is considered one of the earliest castles in the Breisgau region.

What to know

  • This is not a castle open for tours but a ruin site reduced to a rock-cut ditch.
  • Reaching it involves a walk through forest up to the rocky terrace known as the Bürgle.
  • There are no opening hours or fees, as the site is outdoors and freely accessible.
  • The location will mainly appeal to those interested in medieval history and local hiking rather than visitors seeking a standing building.
