To make a day of it

The Burgstelle Kybfelsen is the remains of a former spur castle on a ridge between the districts of Günterstal and Kappel in Freiburg im Breisgau. Set on a steep gneiss outcrop at over 820 metres above sea level, the site offers a wide panorama stretching from the Feldberg to the Schauinsland and out over the Breisgau plain. Little survives of the structure beyond fragments of walls and traces of a collapsed tower, yet the spot remains a popular walking destination for its view.
What to know

- There are no opening hours, fees or visitor facilities, as the site is freely and permanently accessible.

- The main draw is the panoramic view over the Black Forest and the Breisgau plain rather than the ruins themselves, which are limited to a few wall fragments.
