To make a day of it

Burg Freiburg stands in Freiburg im Breisgau (Freiburg im Breisgau), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

Freiburg Castle once crowned the Schlossberg above Freiburg im Breisgau, standing from the eleventh century until its final destruction in the mid eighteenth century. What remains today is not a standing building but an archaeological site, reshaped across seven centuries of fortification, from the Romanesque castrum of the Dukes of Zähringen to the works later added under Marshal Vauban. Among the trees covering the hill one can make out the re-exposed outlines of the Fort Carré bastions, along with a ditch and a mound of rubble marking where the old keep once stood. The site is best approached as a viewpoint over the city rather than a building to tour.
