Burg Kemnat stands in Kaufbeuren (Kaufbeuren), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Burg Kemnat survives mainly as a solitary keep, the remnant of a once-important medieval hilltop fortress overlooking the village of Großkemnat. Built around 1185 by the lords of Apfeltrang, it became the seat of a small lordship and reached its height under Volkmar II of Kemnat, a trusted advisor to King Conrad IV. Most of the original buildings were torn down after 1804, but fragments of the curtain wall, a moat and a 26-metre-deep well still remain. The tower, once mistakenly known as a Roman tower, now serves as a viewing platform over the surrounding land.
What to know

- The grounds are also used for open-air theatre performances.
- A fire in September 2023 seriously damaged the keep's roof, which may affect access to the top.
