Burg Hallburg stands in Volkach (Landkreis Kitzingen), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Burg Hallburg rises above a bend of the Main river at Volkach, on a hill that became a wine island once the canal was cut through in 1957. Its origins go back to a medieval toll fortress that was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt, and what remains today includes a 13th century keep topped with a Renaissance dome and a vaulted chapel dedicated to Saint Pancras. The grounds now house a farm estate and the Schönborn family's vineyard on the Schlossberg slopes.
What to know
- The site sits on an island formed by the Main canal, reached from Volkach.
- The burg hosts a working vineyard estate, which limits access to parts of the building.
- A fire damaged the kitchen area in May 2016, ending the inn that had operated there.
- No opening hours, admission fees or accessibility details are available for an organised visit.
