To make a day of it

Burg Grubenhagen stands in Vollrathsruhe (Landkreis Mecklenburgische Seenplatte), in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Scattered stone remnants in the countryside of Vollrathsruhe, Mecklenburg, are all that mark the site of Grubenhagen Castle. The von Grube family established it during the 1200s, with expansions continuing into the 15th century, before ownership passed to the von Maltzan family. This latter family constructed a nearby manor estate that gradually overshadowed the old castle in significance. Today, a ten-metre wall fragment from the original keep survives, together with remnants of the surrounding moat.
