To make a day of it
Wasserburg Liepen stands in Gielow (Landkreis Mecklenburgische Seenplatte), in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.
The Wasserburg Liepen stands in the hamlet of Liepen, part of the municipality of Gielow, beside a crescent-shaped pond that once served as its natural defence. The von Hahn family was enfeoffed with the estate in 1337 and built a stronghold there, which lost its military role after the Thirty Years' War and was replaced around 1700 by a baroque manor house raised on the surviving medieval cellars. The present building, a plain one-storey rendered structure on a square plan, remained in the hands of several generations of the Hahn family until the expropriation of 1945. Since 2015 the property has again belonged to descendants of the Hahn von Burgsdorff family, who live there and run an estate manufactory on the grounds.
