Where
Neuenhaus

Burg Grasdorf stands in Neuenhaus (Landkreis Grafschaft Bentheim), in Lower Saxony, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

The Burg Grasdorf survives today only as an earthen mound, the remnant of a medieval motte raised beside a former arm of the Vechte river, in the Grasdorf district of Neuenhaus. No structure remains above ground: it is the shape of the land itself, ringed by a ditch, that marks where the stronghold once stood. Excavations in 1880, 1881 and again in 1951 uncovered traces of buildings, palisades and finds dating from the 12th and 13th centuries. A visit here means reading a buried history rather than touring a standing building.
