La construction du château, débutée avant la Première guerre mondiale, s'achève en 1924, ce qui en fait la dernière maison dite d'Américain. L'édifice contraste avec les modèles néo-classiques de type toscan habituellement choisis durant la seconde moitié du 19e siècle. Le volume est complexe et découpé en plusieurs tours et tourelles. Les façades sont différenciées selon leur orientation. Le plan en U développe, côté mer, une enfilade de salons au rez-de-chaussée surélevé, de chambres aux étages. L'ensemble est distribué par un escalier rampe sur rampe, proche de l'entrée de service latérale. Aucun décor ne semble avoir été peint à l'intérieur.
