The Fort du Moulin, also known as the Château de Port-Cros, stands on the island of Port-Cros, off the coast of Hyères. Built in the 16th century to fight piracy along the shore, it was later reshaped to serve as living quarters as well as a garrison post. Its walls bear the marks of several centuries of military alterations, most recently a restoration carried out using stone and techniques native to the island. The building cannot be visited from within, but its outline overlooks the harbour entrance.
