Château de Tautavel stands in Tautavel (Pyrénées-Orientales), in the Occitanie region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 13th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
On the heights above Tautavel, in the Pyrénées-Orientales, stand the remains of a medieval stronghold first recorded in the early 11th century. French forces blew it up after the Treaty of the Pyrenees, leaving only stretches of wall foundations and the base of a round tower. The site's interest lies in its spur position, guarded by a sheer rock face to the west and a cut ditch to the east. Visitors come mainly for the view and the atmosphere of a hilltop ruin rather than for intact architecture.
