To make a day of it

Château de Pontaix stands in Pontaix (Drôme), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

On a rocky pyramidal outcrop above the village of Pontaix, in the Drôme department, stand the ruins of a medieval fortress first recorded in 1215. The stronghold once guarded a narrow passage of the Drôme river, at the mouth of a gorge downstream from Die. Destroyed at the end of the 16th century during the Wars of Religion, it now consists of a small square keep and the remains of two concentric walls.
