What the French Ministry of Culture records

Attesté dès le 12e siècle, l'édifice est le siège d'une seigneurie qui ressort du domaine des comtes de Bourgogne. En 1479, le château est ruiné par les troupes de Louis XI, puis définitivement détruit par celles de Henri IV, en 1595. Une première zone, délimitée par deux fossés, constitue le château, avec vestiges d'enceinte, de constructions, du donjon du 13e siècle, du logis du 15e siècle, ainsi que de la porterie nord. Au-delà d'un fossé, au nord, une autre zone présente une sorte d'ouvrage avancé, avec citerne et tour. Ce dernier dispositif est un exemple rare dans la typologie des châteaux du Jura.
