In Bars, in the Gers department, the château de Marignan combines a set of 17th century buildings arranged around an honour courtyard with a listed dovecote that draws particular attention. Hexagonal in shape and set on round arcades, this dovecote features an unusual design: lacking nesting holes, it was instead protected from vermin by two hollowed cornices encircling the structure. A stone spiral staircase, built into a round central core, leads up through the interior to the floor supported by that same core, all topped by a pyramidal lantern with a square base.
