The château de La Brillanne stands at Puyricard, in the commune of Aix-en-Provence, at the foot of the Trévaresse hills. Originating from a 15th century building later turned into a Provençal bastide, it took on its castle like appearance at the very end of the 19th century, when an extra storey and four square corner towers were added beneath a slate roof. Traces remain of its former role as a country retreat, where Aix families sought shade and cool air from spring through the grape harvest.
