Standing atop a thirty-eight-metre cliff above the Vienne river at Queaux, Fougeret Castle combines a medieval core dating from the 15th century with a neo-Gothic makeover carried out by its owners under the Second Empire. Visitors can see round towers, a chapel, a stone staircase in the Chambord style and painted ceilings, set within a ten-hectare park planted with trees brought from the Americas. The estate has also become known for the reports of paranormal phenomena its current owners have promoted since 2009, which have drawn coverage from several media outlets.
