The château de Courtaliéru stands in ruins on a limestone plateau overlooking a deep valley, a few kilometres southwest of Vimarcé in the Mayenne department. This isolated site preserves the remains of an 11th or 12th century keep, its two-metre-thick walls testifying to early feudal architecture. It suits visitors drawn to ruins set in their natural surroundings rather than a restored monument, in a landscape that remains wild and largely untouched.
