In Beaumont-en-Véron, the château de Coulaine is a flamboyant Gothic manor built around 1470 by Jehan de Garguesalle, on the site of an earlier stronghold. Its features include dormer windows with carved gables, corbelled corner turrets and an octagonal stair tower bearing the coat of arms of the Ouirit family. The estate has remained devoted to farming and winegrowing since medieval times, and still holds a mid 19th century silkworm house, a reminder of the once thriving silk industry of Touraine. The interior was largely reworked in the 19th century under the influence of Viollet-le-Duc, contrasting with the medieval outline kept on the outside.
