To make a day of it

Château de Chabrillan stands in Chabrillan (Drôme), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

On the heights above Chabrillan, in the Drôme region, stand the ruins of a medieval stronghold whose origins date back to the mid 12th century. The site is marked by a massive square keep, around twenty metres high, built purely as a refuge with no comforts, entered through a raised doorway once reached by a wooden ladder. A later round tower and traces of a well show how the original refuge grew into a full fortified complex. Abandoned since the French Revolution, the building lost its roof and much of its stone, which was reused in buildings across the village.
